About us

Our philosophy

It is common complaint from customers that „reform cuisine” cannot rival the traditional „less healthy” cuisine as far as taste is concerned. Every day, we strive to refute this opinion by the meals we offer to you. Our objective is actually double fold: we intend to cook healthy dishes which nurture both your body and soul, and besides that, they are truly delicious.

You may decide to pay more attention to what you eat and drink for various reasons. You may be compelled to do so by an allergy that you have. Others may become interested in healthy eating for spiritual reasons, and some may turn to conscious eating because of the illnesses that some of their relatives suffered from.

We wish to respond to various needs, and to prove that healthy is delicious. We are able to serve freshly cooked, warm, healthy food to quite a few people, nevertheless, our small kitchen run in a familiar context is able to accept only a limited number of orders, as mass production, we all know it very well, has nothing to do with quality. Therefore, we decided to maximalize the number of orders we can take so that we can prepare each dish with the same care. Like that, we can guarantee that our food is not only tasty, besides being free of additives, and it is also healthy. You can clearly recognise the pronounced taste of each ingredient, which is enhanced by the experience and love of those preparing it for you.

Our history

The history of RépaRetek started in 2008, when I started all alone, in the company of a few casseroles and frying pans, to cook for my own and for some hungry epicure, in a the kitchen of a tiny studio flat in the 6th district of Budapest. That was the heroic age, the age of experimenting, and that of high hopes and expectations, with occasional week-end cookery courses, and it all seemed to be fun.

I had everything I needed for such a start: both my hands, my 14-year-old Skoda Pick-up called laconically the Box, an electric oven, which has moved to the rank of a relic since then, and last but not least, my unquestionable devotion to vegetarian cooking and eating, which was at first a sheer necessity, when, at the age of 25, I learned that I had a tumour. The tumour turned out to be benign, nevertheless, it changed my life radically, and within my life one of the main pillars, which was eating, as I come from a restaurateur family.

I gradually started to use seitan, tofu, and what is more, tofu-mayonnaise, and I also prepared those famous vegetable balls replacing the traditional Hungarian meat ball (fasírt). Among the ingredients I included horse barley, agar-agar, rice milk, soy milk and many other ingredients which may sound bizarre for a meat eater.

I banished the white beet sugar and the different additives from my meals. Their place was taken by the cereals: the millet, the barley (which made a name as the main staple food of the Roman army), the oat, the rye, the brown rice and the quinoa, the last newcomer. The cereals are the priceless ingredients of the old-new reform cuisine, they were the food of mankind for millenaries, but fell into oblivion in the age of fast food restaurants.

In the beginning, for a few years, our kitchen operated under the name of SattvaFood, and as our clientele grew rapidly, we decided to go more popular, and gave up our mystically sounding, Indian-style name. Since 2013, our trade name has been RépaRetek, and we pursue our mission relentlessly, which is to make your body and soul feel the pleasure of pure tastes.
